Intermittent grid, grid outages

Last Updated: Jul 25, 2016 03:03PM MDT

What is the best way to model intermittent grid supply, for example, in India where the grid is running 10 hours per day?

Make sure you are updated to the latest version, 3.2.1, which you can do here: https://users.homerenergy.com/pages/homer_pro_update

You'll also need the advanced grid module.

You can model this grid a few different ways. First, in the grid menu, in real time rates mode and in scheduled rates mode, there is a tab labeled "Reliability". You can create scheduled outages for 10 hours per day here using the calendar. You can also add in random outages in this menu if you would like.

Another approach is to use the real time rates mode to prescribe grid outages for the exact hours of the year that you want. I've described how to do this in a knowledge base article: http://support.homerenergy.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/513/0/10511---advanced-grid-and-unreliable-grid-in-homer-pro
