Modeling batteries

Last Updated: Jul 25, 2016 03:13PM MDT

How is the power (kW) represented in this model?

The finite capacity of the battery and the fixed length of time step impose an inherent limit to the charge and discharge power of the battery.  For example, if you are modeling a 10 kWh battery with a 1-hour time step, the discharge power can’t exceed 10 kW, and neither can the charge power.  If you model the same battery with a 30-minute time step, the charge and discharge power could go as high as 20 kW, but no higher.

You can also impose a fixed limit to the charge current and the discharge current in the Create New Battery window.  The maximum charge power will be equal to the maximum charge current times the nominal voltage.  The maximum discharge power will be equal to the maximum discharge current times the nominal voltage.
