• What is the price of HOMER Pro?

HOMER Pro pricing is based on the license length, modules, and/or the package you select. There are also discounts for purchasing more than one license at a time and for verified academic users. See our HOMER Pro Pricing Explained page for complete information.TOP OF PAGE ∧

• Installation and System Requirements

HOMER Pro and HOMER Grid are Windows-based applications that requires Windows Vista or “above,” i.e., Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or higher. It will not run on Windows XP. (Windows XP users must use HOMER 2.)

HOMER Software requires Windows with the .NET 4.6 framework. Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 users will likely need to update their .NET framework to 4.6. If you need to update your .NET framework, you can do so here.

HOMER may run on Mac systems with an appropriate Windows emulator, but we do not support those installations. 

Starting with version 3.9.0, we recommend the 64-bit version for most users. It runs up to 30% faster and supports 1-minute time steps. However, you may install and operate both versions on one computer using the same license.

HOMER will run on a Macintosh equipped with a virtual Windows environment with the above operating systems, but we do not provide support for that environment. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• Why doesn't HOMER Pro run on Windows XP?

We recognize that many people are still using XP, even though Microsoft has discontinued support for it. HOMER uses a version of a Microsoft framework, .NET, that is not backwards compatible to XP. In order to get the support we needed to create the product, we had to make this decision. XP users can continue to have access to HOMER 2 by purchasing an annual license of HOMER Pro basic.
They will then have access to 2 six-month HOMER 2 licenses.

• How do I download and install the software?

Here  is a step-by-step guide to download, install, and license your HOMER Pro Software. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• Do you offer discounts?

We currently offer two types of discounts, quantity and academic. Quantity discounts are available to all customers.

Academic discounts are available to current students, faculty, staff members, and researchers of academic institutions. To request an academic or student discount, please make sure that your role and organization are academic. Once we have have confirmed your information, you will receive an automated email providing instructions on how to complete your purchase. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• Will HOMER 2 (or HOMER Legacy) continue to work after I install HOMER Pro or HOMER Grid?

Yes. They are completely different products. Installing one will not impact the other. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• Will HOMER Pro read my HOMER 2 files?

We discontinued the ability to import HOMER 2 files over a year ago, after version 3.8. If you would like to import a HOMER 2 file, you can download and install HOMER 3.8.7 (or an older version) and it allows you to convert a HOMER 2 file into the improved HOMER Pro format. Once you have converted the file, you should be able to save it and then use it in the latest HOMER Pro.

Here's a tip for you: if you are using the 64-bit version of HOMER Pro now (i.e. a 64-bit version of Pro 3.11.4), you can have an older 32-bit version of HOMER Pro on your computer at the same time. This will allow you to convert files in one and then immediately open it in the latest product, with all of the great new features that go along with it.

If the last time you used HOMER software was HOMER2, I think you will be very pleasantly surprised with all of the new features that help you to design clean, low-cost, reliable distributed energy systems. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• What licensing options are available?

You may purchase single user licenses through our website, but there are other licensing options available. If you require a multi-user license, please fill out an Enterprise License Inquiry here or a Classroom License inquiry here and our sales team will contact you regarding options. TOP OF PAGE ∧

How can an equipment manufacturer get their products into HOMER Pro?

Please contact our support team to add your products into a future release of HOMER Pro. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• Can I purchase a license(s) for someone else in my organization?

Yes, you may purchase a license for another member of your organization and transfer the unactivated license to another user at any time. To transfer the license, please log in to your user account here and select MY ACCOUNT > Licenses. TOP OF PAGE ∧

 • What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, PayPal, Check or bank transfer.

To pay by PayPal, bank transfer, credit card by phone, please click on “Pay by another method” after you place your order at users.homerenergy.com. You will receive an automated email when your payment has been received, providing instructions on how to activate your software license. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• How do I print a receipt?

To print your receipt, please log in to your HOMER account at users.homerenergy.com. Under My Account, click on Orders. Click on View Order, then click on View Payment. Select the “Print invoice” button. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• I need an invoice in order to get purchasing approval. How do I request one?

You can generate your own invoice through our user website. Simply select the product(s) that you would like, create an order, and then select the "Print Invoice/quote" button. You can either print to a physical printer or print to PDF and save the file. When you are ready to make a purchase, come back to the user website, select My Account >> Orders, and your order will be waiting for you. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• How often is the product updated?

We plan to release updates at least 4 times a year. Bug fixes will be released as often as every two weeks, depending on the need. Please visit here to view our latest updates. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• Why did you create the modules? Isn’t the whole idea of HOMER to look at possibilities?

We created the modules in order to (1) keep the product affordable, especially as we expand its capabilities, and (2) make it accessible to as many people as possible. HOMER is a very complex product, but most of our users only need the core functionality. This way, only those people who need the more specialized features have to pay for and view them. • What if I’m not sure which modules I want?

Our 21-day free trial lets you turn modules on and off, so that you can explore what the product is like with and without certain modules. For more detailed information about our available modules, please visit here.  Just note, you can always add a module to your license if you decide that you may need it later. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• Are there plans for a native Macintosh or Linux version?

There are no such plans. Although we get frequent requests for a native Macintosh version, and at one time we thought it would be possible, it does not make financial sense to create either of these versions. Although we can’t explicitly support or troubleshoot issues that may arise running HOMER Pro on Windows emulators, we have received much feedback from users who are happy with this approach. Our engineers recommend Parallels as it has been the most successful. TOP OF PAGE ∧

• Do you have a reseller in my country?

HOMER Energy, LLC, is the sole developer and distributor of the HOMER software. We do not currently have any authorized resellers. You may download and purchase the HOMER software at users.homerenergy.com. TOP OF PAGE ∧
